Rethinking vegetable production in NZ

Fertile soils with high yield security, climate resilience, evaporation and erosion protection, reduction of nitrate leaching, as well as significant increase in soil life, are strong arguments in favour of rethinking vegetable production in NZ.

Mulching systems in vegetable cultivation

In 2017 we began growing vegetables to promote fresh organic produce in our shop. The question was, how do we grow vegetables so that soil fertility is maintained and built up? The soil is the basis for life for our society and future generations.

Using mulch systems we are together with industry partners researching and developing a way to produce vegetables economically and at the same time, promote soil fertility.

This website is a resource akin to a working document on mulch cultivation systems and their technical implementation.
